The development of this lens aimed to ensure uniform illumination, with a required distribution to effectively comply with Illuminance and Luminance criteria based on EN13201

Challenges

The primary challenge was to control the TI – Threshold Increment to control the intensity to prevent glare and ensure that the luminance is uniform throughout the road. 

Solution

The priority was to reduce intensity at high vertical angles (above 70-75°), as this is the main cause of glare. It was requiered to design a continuous geometry, without discontinuities, to achieve a soft light cutoff and avoid hotspots.
