T3-4X4
This optical system was designed to achieve a T3 distribution with high luminous flux, thereby satisfying the specified lighting criteria
Features
- T3 Distribution
- No-Hotspot
- Minimized Backlight, (Note that this design incorporates a five-sided CSP LED emitter and utilizes a compact space of 50 mm x 50 mm to accommodate 16 individual lenses)
Challenges
The primary challenge was to control the light output to achieve a T3-Media distribution utilizing a five-sided LED within a compact space designed for 16 lenses.
Solution
To achieve the desired distribution T3-M, no-hotspot, and reduced backlight requirements, the design approach prioritized the top surface of the LED in the optical design. This decision impacted both efficiency and uplight within the permissible specifications, resulting in a final optical efficiency of 87%.
The lens-to-LED size ratio was not ideal, so it was requiered to optimize the design manually by adjusting the lens shape and LED position.
Given the inherent limitations of the type of LED used and the compact dimensions of each optic, this design is noteworthy as it accomplished a distribution not commercially available. Most lenses of this type produce T3-short distributions, characterized by significant hotspots and backlight
